Bout of Books 10 - grisscorner

This is the update post where I and you who read it can see the progress of my read-a-thon Bout of Books 10.  Instead of making one update post every day, I think it’s better for me to just put them all together in one post, so we can easily read all that jazz in one place. As I mentioned in my previous post, I have 5 books that I want to read, but the goal is to complete 4 books.  Kind of ambitious even though I’m working full time and have to help my friend’s wedding on weekend, but hey, I love to challenge myself :D

Day #1 (May 12)
Books I Read Today: Pushing the Limits (ebook), The Monstrumologist
Books Completed: Pushing the Limits
Pages Read Today: 368
Total Pages Read: 368
Short Notes: Found another good YA Contemporary! Pushing the Limits is not only about a girl and a boy who fall in love.  It is more than that.  It’s about family, dealing with so many things, survival, and I think it delivers a very good message for teenager to love and feel great about themselves. The pacing, plot, characters were awesome. It’s romantic and frustrating in some parts, but Katie McGarry did a very good job to wrap up the book.  Highly recommended!

Day #2 (May 13)
Books I Read Today: The Monstrumologist, Looking For Alaska
Books Completed: Pushing the Limits, Looking For Alaska
Pages Read Today: 241
Total Pages Read: 609
Short Notes: The Monstrumologist is very different genre and I had to get out of my comfort zone completely.  The beginning was slow so I had to start Looking For Alaska to refresh my brain and turned out I finished the last book instead. Now I’ve read two of John Green’s books, but unfortunately Looking For Alaska was not my cup of tea. I couldn’t relate to the characters, probably because I didn’t experience those kind of things at my young age.

Day #3 (May 14)
Books I Read Today: The Monstrumologist
Books Completed: Pushing the Limtis, Looking For Alaska
Pages Read Today: 23
Total Pages Read: 632
Short Notes: I didn’t have time to read today -__- I will try to finish The Monstrumologist tomorrow *fingers crossed*

Day #4 (May 15)
Books I Read Today: The Monstrumologist
Books Completed: Pushing the Limtis, Looking For Alaska
Pages Read Today: 213
Total Pages Read: 845
Short Notes: Nope, haven’t finish The Monstumologist yet.

Day #5 (May 16)
Books I Read Today: The Monstrumologist
Books Completed: Pushing the Limtis, Looking For Alaska, The Monstrumologist
Pages Read Today: 178
Total Pages Read: 1023
Short Notes: I’m not sure I’m liking horror genre.  I was half way through and at that moment I found that I could finally enjoy the story. 3,5 stars from me, and not sure whether I want to buy the next book or not.

Day #6 (May 17)
Books I Read Today: The Hero of Ages
Books Completed: Pushing the Limtis, Looking For Alaska, The Monstrumologist
Pages Read Today: 21
Total Pages Read: 1044

Day #7 (May 18)
Books I Read Today: The Hero of Ages
Books Completed: Pushing the Limtis, Looking For Alaska, The Monstrumologist
Pages Read Today: 282
Total Pages Read: 1326

WRAP UP
The very first book that I’ve read during the Bout of Books 10 was Pushing the Limits by Katie McGarry, and I did enjoy this book so much!  It’s not a typical contemporary, I love all the conflicts, relationships, character development, and the plot. Amazing book.  The second book I picked was Looking For Alaska, and honestly I couldn’t enjoy the story because I couldn’t relate to the characters.  The third book was The Monstrumologist, the only book in this read-a-thon that took so many days hehe. I loved The 5th Wave also by Rick Yancey btw, but unlike that book, The Monstrumologist is just a completely different genre and I think I need to adapt and probably do a reread later to pick up the good stuff that I missed. The last book that I chose and not finished yet was The Hero of Ages.  I already know I love this book, the Mistborn series is just amazing.

I wanted to read 4 books but only completed 3 books (and a half if I count The Hero of Ages :p), but I’m pretty satisfied with the result. I joined one challenge, and I also found some great book blogs that I will visit regularly:
1. Obsessed with Fairy Tales
2. Reading the Paranormal
3. My Life in Books
4. Chic Reader :D

It’s kinda amazing to know there are A LOT OF PEOPLE who actually love reading. If you want to join next challenge, Bout of Books 11 will be held from August 18th to 24th.
